Although the crypto market is still in a bearish condition, the adoption for Bitcoin (BTC) continues to move in a better and expansive direction.
Indeed, the adoption of crypto assets as a payment option does not appear to be bothered by current market conditions, as it is seen as a long-term project.
Payment options using crypto are currently gaining popularity due to low transaction fees, so retail businesses are able to maximize their profits.
Moreover, several services for crypto payments have been introduced, which make it easy for retail businesses to instantly convert the crypto they receive into fiat money, in case they don't want to store crypto for a long time.
Bitcoin Valley in Santa Lucia City
According to a Reuters report, one of the cities in Honduras, Santa Lucia, has entered the crypto trend, with the creation of a project called “Bitcoin Valley.”
The project has made Santa Lucia a Bitcoin city, where this major crypto asset as a payment option has become quite widespread throughout the city.
The hope is that this project can attract more tourists, because crypto assets are still one of the trends in several countries as a payment option.
“This will open up more opportunities and attract more people who want to use this currency [Bitcoin],” said Cesar Andino, Los Robles Shopping Square Manager.
Initially, the project targeted 60 businesses to be trained in Bitcoin adoption, including the marketing of their products and services. Hopefully, this will continue to expand to businesses in the city, making it truly a Bitcoin-friendly city.
The project was initiated by the Honduran blockchain organization, a consortium of Guatemalan crypto exchange Coincaex, the Honduran University of Technology and the Municipality of Santa Lucia.
“The Santa Lucia community will be educated to use and manage cryptocurrencies, apply them in different businesses in the region and generate crypto tourism,” said Ruben Carbajal Velazquez, Professor at Honduras University of Technology.
Like El Salvador but on a city scale, of course Santa Lucia's move has become the focus of some media.
Since the pandemic subsided, tourism has now become one of the targets of many places to boost its growth. It is hoped that the adoption of Bitcoin can become a new attraction for the city in the Central American country.
